Building your own First-Person View (FPV) drone is a rewarding educational experience. To get started with a DIY build, you need to understand the core components that make up the aircraft. Here is a breakdown of the 8 essential parts you will need.
1. Drone Frame

The frame is the skeleton of your drone, usually made of carbon fiber for a balance of lightweight design and durability. It holds all your electronics and motors together.
2. Flight Controller (FC) & Electronic Speed Controller (ESC)

The flight controller acts as the brain of the drone. It contains gyroscopes and processors that translate your stick movements into signals to keep the drone flying stably. The ESC receives signals from the flight controller and regulates the power sent to the motors, dictating exactly how fast each motor should spin.
3. Video Transmitter (VTX)

The VTX takes the video feed from your camera and broadcasts it wirelessly to your FPV goggles, allowing you to see where you are flying in real-time.

4. FPV Camera

Mounted at the front of the frame, the FPV camera is your eyes in the sky. It captures the live video feed necessary for first-person flying.
5. Brushless Motors

You will need four brushless motors for a standard quadcopter. They provide the raw power and torque needed to spin the propellers and lift the drone.
6. Propellers

Attached to the motors, propellers generate the thrust. They come in various sizes and pitches, with tri-blade designs being the most common for FPV freestyle and racing.
7. Radio Receiver (RX)
